For over 75 years, Cub Scout Pack 172 has been serving the boys of Stratford, Connecticut. Our Pack was originally founded in October 1941 by J.L. Arnett at Garden Elementary School. The Garden School Fathers Club chartered both our Pack and Boy Scout Troop 172. While Garden School, its Father’s Club and Troop 172 are no longer, our Pack lives on. Over the years our Pack has found homes at Second Hill Lane Elementary School, Eli Whitney Elementary School and now our Pack is currently chartered by Stratford United Methodist Church. We have as been chartered by SUMC since 1989. In June of 2018, our Pack proudly welcomed our first girl Cub Scouts as a part of Boy Scouts of America’s Family Scouting Program.
Cub Scout Pack 172 proudly serves boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade in the Stratford area. We welcome boys and girls from any school; in fact, our current Scouts represent several different area public elementary schools, three private schools, and home-schooling programs.
While our charter partner, Stratford United Methodist Church welcomes all to worship services anytime, and the church supports Scouting as an outreach ministry; there is no requirement to attend or join SUMC in order to participate in the Scouting program with Cub Scout Pack 172. All boys and girls are welcome.
Things of Note:
- In 1959 our Pack had “Mounted” Horseriders that participated in 1959 Scout-Capades.
- In 1947, our Pack formed a choir and performed at local town functions.
